The Shot Putt

SHOT PUT

Putting the Shot requires your mechathlete to fire a standard squash ball as far as possible by what ever means you choose. Only the squash ball should leave the machine and all parts of the mechathlete should stay behind the line otherwise a foul will be called by the judges.

There are lots of different ways in which the mechathlete can fire the "shot" but you should note that a short run up is allowed and this can add to the length of throw by giving extra momentum. The stop at the end of the run up is there to allow for a trigger or firing mechanism to be built into your machine.

In this event rapid acceleration is required, combined with a strong throwing mechanism. The trigger will need some very clever designing so that it releases the "shot" at exactly the right moment. Your design should also make sure that your mechathlete does not cartwheel over the end of the run up as this will be a foul.
