The Weight Lift

Weight

In the Weight Lift a mechathlete has to lift a 500gm weight a vertical distance of 500mm in the shortest possible time.

This is definitely an event for the heavy machine, as after a little thought you will realise that in order to lift half-a- kilogramme into the air your mechathlete will have to weigh more than the weight otherwise the mechathlete will be lifted into the air and not the other way round.

From the diagram you can see the mechanism to which your mechathlete has to be attached. This gives you two alternative ways of tackling the problem. One is to attach your mechathlete to the rope and then pull the weight up by moving along the track. The other is to keep your mechathlete stationary and have a winch system that winds the weight up. You must decide which method you think is best, point to note, there is nothing in the rules that says you cannot improve the mechanical advantage of the system provided it is attached to your mechathlete.
